The Lysistrata of Aristophanes
Leonard Smithers
2012
The book is covered in full hand dyed terracotta alum tawed calf with gold tooling. The top edge is coloured gold and there are hand sewn silk endbands, hand dyed and sanded reverse goatskin doublures and hand coloured endpapers.
I wanted to emulate human skin with all its mottlings and variations and this could only be achieved by dying an alum tawed skin myself. The tooling reflects the sinuous lines and delicate pointwork of the illustrator.
